Well, that’s a bit of an exaggeration. But its not been easy.
We started off the week with a power cut Sunday night. It lasted for about 2 hours and it was already dark when it happened. It really freaked the kids out – especially Joshua. Once they got used to it and I lit a few candles, they actually found it quite exciting, but neither of them wanted to go to bed. But in the end I insisted that they go to bed as it was 8.30ish and it said online that the problem might not be fixed until 11pm. There was no way I was going to let them stay up that late. At one point the power flicked back on for a second but went off again. And then it came back on but went off again after about 20 minutes, by which point, I’d got rid of all the candles so we were all pitched back into darkness again. Lets just say I didn’t get much rest that evening.
Another thing that happened was that Joshua lost a tooth. He hasn’t lost one in ages, and we did know this was coming as he’d shown me he had a wobbly tooth and I’d pointed out to him that he had another tooth coming through which was pushing this one out. When the tooth eventually came out he was very upset and shaken up. It bled quite a lot and it took a while to calm him down. He asked me what we should do with the tooth and I said that he should leave it under his pillow for the tooth fairy. He then told me that he doesn’t believe in the tooth fairy anymore. However, he still wanted to leave the tooth under his pillow. The next morning, as he was getting dressed I heard him thumping about and making grunting noises (a sure sign that he’s pissed off about something). I asked him what it was and he said that he’d left a note for the tooth fairy (aka me) saying that he wanted £2.00 for his tooth. a) you get what you get, ungrateful child and b) I hadn’t seen the note. It was hard enough reaching over him to get the tooth from under his pillow, I wasn’t going to root around under there to see if there was anything else under there and risk waking him up!!! He then proceeded to write a shitty note to the toothfairy (or whoever) to say he was very unhappy as what can he get for a pound these days!!!!
Oh and another thing that happened was that Wednesday night/Thursday morning, he woke me up at 2am because the wifi had stopped working – meaning that his music had stopped playing. I have to admin, I really lost it with him. First of all I told him firmly that these things happen and he’ll have to just try to get back to sleep without it. I went back to bed but he kept on coming to the bottom of my stairs (I have a loft bedroom) and moaning so I ended up getting up several times, and in desperation, I tried switching the wifi off and on again in an effort to get him to let me go back to bed. In the end, I ended up shouting and he shouted back and between us, we woke Alara up who then also couldn’t get back to sleep unless she was in my room (I didn’t have a single night since Friday where she didn’t either sleep with me or climb into bed with me during the night – usually waking me up in the process). Suffice to say with all this going on, I haven’t been getting much sleep. I have trouble getting to sleep as it is, without all these extra interruptions and wake up calls! I was a mean mummy (or maybe a fair one) and deducted a quid pocket money off Joshua for waking me up.
I’m sure some other things have happened too but I can’t quite recall what they were at the moment.
I feel like I’ve been skidding from crisis to crisis this past week.
Now I’m at work (at the care home place I work at) and I’m looking forward to finishing, watching a movie, then going to bed and sleeping for a very very long time!
