I know I haven’t written here for a while. I’ve had a bit of a crazy time.
So, you know I was doing the care work. I have to be honest, the initial enjoyment of this had started to disappear. It’s really tough work. I found I was so exhausted after a couple of shifts that I wasn’t spending the time I had left doing anything productive – I had no energy left for anything else.
And then I accidentally came across someone requesting a bit of admin help on a Facebook group I’m a member of. I helped him and thought to myself “I could do this”. So I drafted a little advert picture and posted on a few selling and local Facebook groups and low and behold I got a few more customers and now I am at the point where I have enough work (at least in the short-term) to keep me busy Monday to Friday 9-5. More or less.
So I’ve told the care agency the situation and they are happy to keep me on the books for evening and weekend work – and there is a place that I’ve requested to be sent back to where I don’t have to do any personal care or anything. Just have to be there in case of any problems.
And the business is going greatguns. I have a Facebook page, I’m in the process of setting up a website. I have created and printed my own business cards:
I’ve joined a few Virtual Assistant Facebook groups. The most helpful one I’ve found is The VA Handbook and their Facebook group is so helpful and supportive.
I’m so excited about my future. This is what I’ve wanted. To be my own boss. To work from home. To be flexible around the kids.
I never really felt like I fitted in in offices. I could never truly be myself. I wanted to wear whatever I wanted (as long as the work got done, who cares, right? wrong! as I found to my detriment). I wanted to work from home (but this benefit was almost always kept for the directors). I want to be in charge of my own schedule – no more asking for permission to go to a school play, or an assembly, or to take the afternoon off and go for a picnic in the sun!!!
This post is by no means an advert as I just want to share what I’m up to, but if you are reading this and thinking you could do with some help with admin or copy writing or proof reading, feel free to drop me an email – or like my facebook page and then send me a message through there.
